Moscow – Beyond beauty and functionality, is there anything we might be missing with regards to the bathroom industry? That’s what Spanish bathware brand is intent on asking, and the eight edition of their jumpthegap® design competition is the place to do so.
The biennial competition is a platform where international architecture students and professionals under the age of 40 can showcase their perspectives. Our cover image, for example, features last year's winner: Iranian designer Mohammadreza Shahmohammadi's Panacea. The seven previous editions have attracted more than 20,000 participants from 134 countries, with innovative proposals on how the bathroom space of the future can be more sustainable – and registration is now open for the young designers and architects who want to follow their footsteps.
To announce the start of this cycle, Roca held a presentation at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture in the Russian capital. The key names? Along with lifelong collaborator , represented by general director Isabel Roig, this edition’s judges include Brazilian architect and , the director of the Design Week in Mexico. The panel also features Turkish curator , Russian architect and Italian architect and engineer . Roca’s voice will be represented by Josep Congost, the director of its own .
And for those proposals that excel in terms of sustainable thinking, the award will be selected by the institution's director, Xavier Torras, along with , the director of the United Nations Information Centre and Low Cheaw Hwei, head of design for Philips in Asia.
