The 16th annual International Interior Design Awards ceremony took place during a black tie affair inside London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Celebrating the design industry, the coveted awards are given to the best interior products and projects created by UK and international designers.
Amsterdam-based i29 interior architects won the in the retail category for their temporary transformation of the historic Felix Meritis building into the contemporary pop-up St-W store. Conceived as a three-dimensional experience of St-W Magazine, the store was situated within the Felix Meritis' Zuilenzaal – Hall of Columns – and reflected the grandeur of the 18th century space. Mirrored partitions concealed the fitting rooms and reflected the shop's contents and columns endlessly. Products presented on black-topped mirrored platforms appeared to float in space. Judges remarked 'The 02 shop connects us with the past in a contemporary and minimal way' as well as 'a very innovative curation'.
Also receiving the (H.I.P.) in September, the firm's second retail interior ever – aptly named 'shop 02' – and first with St-W Magazine has now received two prizes since it first barged on the scene in early April 2014. The award-winning pop-up St-W store preceded the current retail venture: St-W store Amsterdam. Opened in September 2014, the second interior is a black-and-white optical installation at Herengracht 178 in Amsterdam.
