In the cultural heart of Rotterdam, the , artists, designers and producers will come together to experiment with industrial production methods at the Happy Industry festival. From 12-14 September, the city’s Museumpark will be packed with smouldering ovens and grinding machines that will melt, mould and forge.
Foundation organizes the festival to celebrate the beauty of raw and artisanal industry in an era where much is produced digitally. As we seem to see only smooth and finished products in our daily environment, the foundation wants to shed light on raw industry as the core of production. A temporary workspace will settle in Museumpark, where rugged production processes will be demonstrated by artists such as , , and . The entire cultural programme – which includes music, film, performances, food and drinks – will revolve around the main theme of the beauty of raw and rugged, and the festival is free of charge.
(The New Institute) will set up an additional programme, organizing artist talks and workshops for wee ones. Amidst the sparks and grease of the ovens and machines, artists, producers and scientists will address themes such as industry, production and consumption.
