Mexico-based mixed media artist has been working on a selection of collages created using found materials, old magazines and discarded objects such as used cigarette packaging. Describing his latest work as an investigation of “the idea of working at a quick pace with whatever materials are on hand in order to free up the creative process and allow ‘accidents’ to occur”, Tierney brings sharp, pithy freshness to his work through a mix of electrifying colours and gleefully nonsensical text.
Old movie posters, vintage books and printmaking techniques all serve as visual references for Tierney’s collages. Some of our favourites include his cover artwork illustration for The Deer Republic’s single release “The Score” – the fine balance between gritty and pretty will be sure to hold your attention as well. We also like his artwork from the Life Collage series: there is something very admirable about the way he introduces sleekness into the rugged sturdiness of skateboards.
Habitual runs from 18 to 20 December.
