Dover Street Market London Makeover by Rei Kawakubo et al.

DSM London’s new window display showcases the Comme des Garçons SHIRT x Star Wars collaboration.

‘Everything I do has the same starting point, so how do I make something new,’ questions ’ Rei Kawakubo in an interview for St-W #88 (due out 1 September).

The latest makeover of London, just completed to receive the Autumn/Winter collections (nevermind that in northern Europe we’ve seen precious little summer) illustrates her commitment to renewal – not to mention her continuing focus on splicing art and commerce to transform the retail experience.

The latest DSM London ‘Tachiagari’ (which means ‘beginning’ in Japanese) features work by set designer , fresh from an inspiring collaboration with Kawakubo in His reimagined third floor has idiosyncratic sci-fi overtones, in sync with the Star Wars theme of the windows.

Elsewhere, there are updated fitting rooms by artist Graham Hudson and sculptor Michael Samuels, an exhibition space featuring the work of young Russian fashion designer and photographer Gosha Rubchinskiy, plus new spaces for Lanvin, Raf Simons and others.
